Imagine a place where everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can bask in the sun, feel the sand between their toes, and revel in the breathtaking views of the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Welcome to JT's Grommet Island, the first fully accessible oceanfront park of its kind.

This groundbreaking project was brought to life with the expertise and dedication of Speight Marshall Francis, who served as the Structural Engineer of Record and Special Inspector for this extraordinary park situated on the southern oceanfront of Virginia Beach. We also designed the supporting storage and restroom facility – all with one vision in mind: inclusivity.

JT's Grommet Island stands as a testament to the belief that recreation and enjoyment should be open to absolutely everyone. No longer do physical limitations need to hinder beachgoers from experiencing the joys of the coast. With the facility's slogan proudly declaring "For EveryBODY," it is truly a place where everyone can indulge in the seaside bliss.

What sets JT's Grommet Island apart is its dedication to wheelchair accessibility, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges face no barriers in accessing all the park has to offer. From the moment they arrive, visitors can navigate the gently sloping pathways that lead them to the heart of this seaside sanctuary. A fully accessible playground ensures that kids of all abilities can let their imagination run wild, swinging, sliding, and engaging in the pure delight that comes from uninhibited play.

It's worth noting that the significance of this project extends beyond its engineering marvel. Speight Marshall Francis provided their services as a donation, fuelled by their passion for this pioneering initiative. Their contribution to this groundbreaking endeavor made the dream of an all-inclusive oceanfront park a reality, forever changing the way we view accessibility on the American shoreline.

JT's Grommet Island is more than just an accessible park. It serves as a shining example of what can be achieved when innovative design and compassion unite.

So, whether you're someone with limited mobility, a parent seeking a safe haven for your children to play, or simply an advocate for inclusivity, JT's Grommet Island beckons you to join in the celebration of a landmark project that sets the stage for a future where everyBODY's needs are not just met but exceeded.
