COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

EDUCATING COLLEAGUES

Fostering understanding among A/E/C disciplines is a vital part of our job to the community; therefore, we produce these informational bulletins about crucial – but often ambiguous – topics. With the knowledge of our featured subjects, our goal is to help you improve your profitability while reducing your liability.

Have any other burning structural engineering questions? Ever wonder why something is done the way it is? If you have any questions, our Structural Engineers are here to help. We will respond as quickly as possible.

IN-HOUSE SEMINARS

In 2016 our President Danny Speight began teaching Structural Masonry seminars for Southeast Concrete Masonry Association. Our Engineers also welcome the opportunity to conduct in-depth discussions in your office about any of our published Technical Bulletin topics or any other structural engineering topic. Don’t expect a dry, boring talk!

CULTIVATING ARCHITECTS

Since 1990, Danny Speight has relished serving as an instructor of the General Structures & Lateral Forces course to help Architects pass this portion of the ARE (Architectural Registration Examination). Email Danny if you would like to be contacted with information about the next course to help prepare you for your future. He’s tough…but you’ll be happy he was!

TRAINING INTERNS

We take mentoring seriously here at Speight Marshall Francis. Throughout the years we have given opportunities to dozens of talented structural engineering interns to help them blossom and prosper. In fact, Steve Cowan, P.E. started interning with our firm at 16 years old and has now earned a position as one of the firm’s partners! Do you have what it takes for a career in structural engineering?

COACHING WITH ALTRUISM

Participating in our community, sharing our knowledge, and building a better future for our youth is the name of our game. Throw in a little bit of lively competition and it’s GAME ON! Serving as mentors at the Virginia Beach Schools’ STEM Outreach program Maker Expo or coaching Virginia Rush Soccer, we are building winners in the game of life.

Young Life

Kids' lives are dramatically influenced when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God's love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God's love for them, will have an impact on future decisions-careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised-all ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world.
