The city of Virginia Beach can now house more dogs, cats, and other stray animals as they wait for their forever home.

The $12.5M, 38,000-square-foot facility sits on 5.14 acres at 351 South Birdneck Road. The project met the design and construction standards for USGBC LEED Silver certification. This new state-of-the-art green facility replaces the old 8,461 square foot building on Leroy Road that was constructed in 1974. The new City of Virginia Beach shelter can house up to 192 dogs, 129 cats, and 20 other/exotic pets.
