Award-winning, luxury Hilton hotel with a massive conference center built directly in the heart of downtown Norfolk.

Served as Structural Engineer of Record and Agent 1 Special Inspector for the new Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Norfolk, a high-rise 23-story complex with 300 luxury hotel rooms, 50,000 square feet of conference space, retail space, and a 600-space parking garage. Cooper Carry, the architectural firm, designed the facility similar to Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The project’s goal was to be able to compete with Richmond, Raleigh, and Atlanta to attract conferences to Norfolk. Designed to achieve LEED certification, the $126 million project features a $19.5 million parking garage.

The hotel's atrium features a 120-foot-tall, 100-foot-wide façade made of point-supported glass inspired by the Time Warner Building in New York City. The Grand Ballroom is 18,500 square feet, the largest in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Exchange, the city-owned conference center, has 12,000 square feet of pre-function and exhibit space. A 90 seat tiered meeting room with technology support at each seat for personal laptops and a multi-media “think tank” room has also been incorporated to handle business functions. The hotel also features three world-class restaurants and a 10,000 square foot rooftop lounge with an amazing view of the Elizabeth River. This public space passes through to the Selden Arcade and includes two escalators that lead up to the hotel’s lobby. Design elements incorporate Norfolk’s military heritage and the nautical lifestyle.
