The Glass Light Hotel, Autograph Collection by Marriott
Historic charm, modern luxury and quirky details all wrapped up in one describes the new Glass Light Hotel & Gallery located on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk, VA.
Built in 1912, the historic 13-story Royster Building at 201 Granby St. most recently housed Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority's offices since the 1970s. Initially, Speight Marshall Francis conducted a feasibility study of the building to determine if converting it into a hotel was structurally feasible and cost-effective. Subsequently, our firm designed repairs to the building in preparation for the building’s adaptive reuse and ultimately designed the full conversion.
The luxurious Glass Light Hotel & Gallery is now an art-filled, 113-room boutique Marriott hotel. The property even boasts an out-of-this-world restaurant designed by a Michelin-starred French Chef. In 2020, Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE) awarded Glass Light Hotel & Gallery the coveted “Juror’s Choice Award,” the association’s highest annual honor, as well as an Excellence Award for “Best Renovation or Historic Renovation.”
Speight Marshall Francis also designed the next phase of the project "205 Granby Museum"-conversion of the former Roxy Theater at 205 Granby Street into a public art gallery that is connected to the hotel and filled with glass art from the Patricia and Douglas Perry collection.
