The Villas at Linkhorn Bay, Virginia Beach,
VA
Served
as Structural Engineer of Record and Special Inspector
for a new five building resort complex (each 5½ stories)
on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach. In conjunction
with the large waterfront condominium project, our work
included replacement of an existing failed timber bulkhead
and pier structure. The waterfront structures provide
boat slips and marina facilities as well as retainage
of environmentally sensitive areas. Our services also
included structural design of a poolhouse & pool,
a gate house, gazebo, and front entrance wall.
Our work included the study of existing soil conditions
and their impact on the structural materials selected
to assure the maximum life possible for the structure.
Environmental specialists were consulted to minimize
the impact and preserve the integrity of the indigenous
wildlife. Project site features include: 600 feet long
aluminum sheetpile bulkhead, 1500 linear feet of wood
framed piers, finger piers, gangways, and gazebos. Materials
used: marine grade pressure treated timber, high strength
6061-T6 aluminum alloy, and galvanized steel.
